It’s a sad day for the grand old party becoming an old party. It would be sadder if Scindia joins the BJP. It leaves a lot of us hopeless. I would’ve preferred a coup from the youngsters Pilot, Scindia, Deora to form a new party.

With the young brigade being neglected, there is no hope for the Congress and is leaving people like us in a lurch. I have tried to defend the Congress reluctantly only on hope that this young brigade will take over. Supporting the Congress was a need not because I loved the party, or Rahul Gandhi or Sonia Gandhi, but the need to have a stronger opposition and build a stronger voice against totalitarianism that the country is slowly moving towards.

We’d been hoping hopelessly that things will change soon. Like Scindia, we too are running out of patience. But, like Scindia, moving to the BJP is not an option. Because totalitarianism has to be and needs to be resisted.

In the recent Delhi elections, I voted for the Congress, not because I love Maken, but to make my vote count in vote share, as resistance, howsoever marginal it may seem. Kejriwal wasn’t my choice, one he would have won anyway and two he does not have a national appeal. If Congress has to survive, it needs to unsettle some people, particularly the oldies. It needs fresh thinking and only the youth can do that. It needs to better handle the Makens, Gehlots and the Naths, like BJP handled the Advanis, Joshis… and give the command to the youth. It needs to find a way to survive outside the Gandhi family.

The Gandhis currently are saturated and they are not natural but reluctant leaders, considering leadership has been thrust on them. And as Scindia joins the BJP, the hope for a stronger Opposition goes away and the completion of totalitarianism seems nearer. Nothing can save India. The Pandora’s box too has gone missing. Until we find it…
